How are we evaluated?/Given our grades?

In ISCTE, there are two types of evaluation, continuous and exam only. Each module will have a different type of structure of each, but below is a description of each and its components:

Avaliação Contínua / Continuous

This is the most recommendable type of evaluation. It relies on a combination of the following components;
  • Class attendance
  • Class participation
  • Group Projects &/OR Individual Projects
  • Tests (Final &/OR Periodic)
  • Presentations (Group OR Individual)
  • Assignments
Some lecturers will advise students that have low grades on the Continuous evaluation method to pass onto the Final Exam. This is because students that have Continuous evaluation are able to improve their grades by going to the the 2nd calling of exams, whereas Exam students are able to go to the two exam callings.

Avaliação Periódica/ Final Exam

This type of evaluation relies almost entirely on the exams at the end of each semester. Students find that it's a lot harder than all of the tests taken in the continuous evaluation. It may  have the following components as well as the exam itself:
  • Group project OR Individual project - which sometimes has a Presentation component
For this reason, even if you chose the Final Exam evaluation, it is ESSENTIAL that you talk to the lecturer and find out how the evaluation is structured and the due dates of any assignment that they might need from you.

Class Schedule

As an Erasmus student, your classes might have been chosen modules from different courses and different classes. For this reason, it is important that you contact the International Relations Office to ask them about the schedule of your particular modules, if you have not recieved this information already.

However, there is also another way to find out; if you know from which course and year your modules are, then it is possible to find out through the site horarios.iscte-iul.pt.
In this site, you will have to find the class and year and from there will be able to find the room and time of your modules.

Exam, Test and Assignment Schedules

Students that are taking the Continuous Evaluation will receive the due dates of their assignments and the dates of their exams and tests directly from their professor, and may ask him/her at any time when they are given, provided they have already been scheduled.

In most cases, a Class email will exist, and students may ask a colleague to access it.

There is also a site which gives all the Exam schedules.
